Public transport


All public transportation tickets can be purchased at ZTM points, in some newspaper kiosks and at ticket machines located in the metro stations, where you can pay either with cash or a debit card. Instructions on the ticket machines are in Polish, English and German.

The Warsaw metropolitan area is divided into urban zone "1" (within the city limits) and suburban area "2". Remember that a valid ticket that may be used to reach both zones is more expensive. The prices of selected tickets:

• 20 minute ticket - 3,40 PLN, discount - 1,70 PLN

• Single fare transfer ticket, 90 min- 7,00 PLN, discount - 3,50 PLN

• One-day ticket zone 1 (valid 24h): standard - 15,00 PLN, discount - 7,50 PLN

• Three-day ticket zone 1 (valid 72h): standard - 36,00 PLN, discount - 18,00 PLN

• One-day ticket zone 1 and 2 (valid 24h): standard - 26,00 PLN, discount - 13,00 PLN

• Weekend ticket zone 1 and 2 (valid from 7:00 PM on Friday till 8:00 AM on Monday):  standard - 24,00 PLN, discount - 12,00 PLN

• Three-day ticket zone 1 and 2 (valid 72h): standard - 57,00 PLN, discount - 28,50 PLN

• Group weekend ticket, up to 5 people,  zone 1 and 2 - 40,00 PLN

Children and youth from the 1st of October of the calendar year in which they turn 7 until they turn 16 and s
tudents of foreign schools holding an ISIC (International Student Identity Card) until they turn 26 are entitled to travel half-fare on condition that they hold a document with a photo confirming their birth date.

If you use public transportation without a valid ticket, you risk receiving a 266 PLN fine. If you are handed a fine, you have the option to pay on the spot (always get proof of payment from the ticket controller). The fine may be reduced by 30%, if you pay it no later than seven days after it is received.


When travelling around Warsaw and its neighbourhoods, the following rail connections may be used:
- Warszawska Kolej Dojazdowa (WKD) www.wkd.com.pl
- Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) www.skm.warszawa.pl
- Kolej Mazowiecka (KM) www.mazowieckie.com.pl
- PKP Przewozów Regionalnych www.przewozyregionalne.pl

Those trains stop at most of railway stations, eg.: Warszawa Śródmieście, Warszawa Śródmieście WKD, Warszawa Wschodnia, Warszawa Stadion, Warszawa Zachodnia, Warszawa Powiśle, Warszawa Gdańska, Warszawa Ochota and Warszawa Wileńska.


SKM trains are part of the Warsaw public transportation system, therefore in use are the same ZTM tickets as in buses, trams and metro.

In WKD and KM trains, general public transportation tickets (ZTM) are accepted, and single-ride tickets may be bought at WKD windows. Details
